Last year I had an idea. What would happen if I launched a website that gave away half of its profit as a basic income?
I've been a blogger and freelance writer for several years, and I've worked with dozens of websites earning $10k-$100k per month – some owned by a single person!
Now, running a website is hard work, and these bloggers deserve the money they're making. But I wanted to do something a little different.
I concluded that I could afford to earn less if I was able to help more people.
So I launched ARicherYou.com in October of 2017.
My goal is to make ARY a leading platform to educate Americans about money (making more of it, saving more of it, and investing it wisely) – while also giving away half of our profits to readers in the form of multiple giveaways where the winner receives $500/month for two years.
Not only does this allow A Richer You to truly help our readers, but it's also a great business strategy – as our January income report shows (the site brought in $1,000 in January). Perhaps, if A Richer You succeeds, we'll be able to motivate other blogs and businesses to market themselves by financially supporting their readers and customers!
Introducing our first winner
At the beginning of January we had our first drawing.
And the winner was Terry from Missoula Montana. We'll be sending her $500/month for all of 2018 and 2019. No strings attached!
After a few emails and a phone call, I was incredibly excited to have Terry as our first winner. During our first conversation I was inspired by her positivity and pleasant attitude toward life.
Terry has spent her life enjoying interacting with people, as can be seen from her work history as a teacher, case manager, insurance claims adjuster, and light department manager.
But Terry's life hasn't been easy. After losing her husband to cancer 18 years ago, she's battled cancer twice herself, and is now on disability and doing what she can to support her daughter and grandkids.
Spending most of her time at home, Terry enjoys connecting with others via social media and has fun entering giveaways and sweepstakes.
As Terry has described herself:
I am a two-time cancer survivor who has not had an easy life, but I take joy in the moment and always have hope that the best is yet to come.
What an inspiration for all of us!
What will Terry do with this extra $500/month?
When asked how she plans to use this extra money, Terry told me that most of it will be spent on bills and assisting her daughter.
But, Terry also has a dream. She would like to take her family on a vacation somewhere warm where they can enjoy the beach.
And I hope she's able to pursue this dream! Experiences are one of the most rewarding ways to spend extra money.
The journey's just getting started, and we could use your help!
I'm so excited that we've been able to share money tips and tricks with 25,000 subscribers in just 4 months – while also providing Terry with a basic income. But we're just getting started!
Despite living in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, there are millions of Americans struggling to get by.
In fact, when I asked ARY's Facebook followers what they would do with an extra $500/month, we received nearly 800 responses! From paying off medical bills, to covering student debt, to keeping a roof over their kids' heads – the financial needs in America are very real.
Poverty doesn't need to be the norm, and I would love your help with ending it here in America.
So, if you're motivated to lend a hand, here's how you can help:
1. Read and share A Richer You and our giveaway
Just by introducing your Facebook friends to ARY, you're helping us grow our influence. Even by entering our giveaway for your own chance to win, you're helping us increase the impact we can make.
2. Use the products we discuss
If you start your Amazon shopping trip from our link at the top of this page (or via any Amazon link in our blog posts), Amazon will give us a small commission at no extra cost to you – and you'll also be able to select a charity to donate and additional 0.5% to.
Meanwhile, many of the companies that we love and discuss on ARY pay us a small commission for introducing them to you. From discount shopping via Ebates, to real estate investing with AHPFund and Fundrise, the shopping and products menus above connect you with products and services that are willing to financially support our brand.
3. Write articles or share resources on A Richer You's website
Do you have an awesome story making, saving, or investing money? We'd love to share it to inspire and educate our readers. You can contact us via the email: contact @ ARicherYou.com!
Meanwhile, for bloggers, if you give us permission to republish some of your content, not only will you help us share great content, but we'll link back to your site and introduce you to our subscribers.
4. Donate to A Richer You
ARicherYou.com is a for-profit business committed to giving away 50% of our profit to readers. But we could use additional support.
If you would like to help us help others, you are welcome to donate! Your contributions will allow us to run more giveaways and will in no way reduce how much we contribute ourselves.
Interested in supporting our project? You can contribute using PayPal, Bitcoin, or Ethereum. 100% of what you contribute will be given away to our basic income winners.

5. Support other basic income projects
Although there aren't many businesses like ARicherYou.com that provide a basic income, there are other Universal Basic Income (UBI) projects that could revolutionize the world.
For example, there's a new cryptocurrency that provides anyone who signs up with a small amount of money every week. If you join Mannabase today, you can start making the equivalent of a few dollars a month in cryptocurrency – while supporting a UBI project that has the goal to provide financial support to millions around the world.
Meanwhile, the city of Stockton, California and the country of Finland are both running their own government-backed UBI projects.
By exploring and learning about these projects, you can continue the dialogue around a basic income and whether or not it's a plausible solution to reduce poverty and prepare for a more automated world.
Here's to A Richer You
Is a Universal Basic Income the solution to all financial problems in America (and the world)? I'm not 100% convinced, but it's worth exploring.
What is important is financial literacy. The more you learn about saving and investing, the more freedom and peace of mind you'll enjoy.
Here's to a richer you.
